After zero starts since November, the future looks bleak for the mercurial Armenian at Old Trafford.
As per reports, Inter Milan wish to add Henrikh Mkhitaryan to their midfield in January. In one of the most tightly contested Serie A title races in the recent past, Inter Milan look to bolster their midfield to propel them towards the finishing line.
The Armenian has fallen out of favour with Mourinho after a string of disappointing performances in important matches. If the Inter deal does go through, Jose Mourinho would look to replace Mkhitaryan with Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil.
Corriere dello Sport claims that the San Siro outfit are not in the transfer market to pay “crazy” prices and are not very keen to sell their top stars like Mauro Icardi and Ivan Perisic, the latter of whom was a Manchester United target in the summer.
What led to Mkhitaryan’s absence?
Mkhitaryan arrived at Manchester United last year with a huge reputation after being named the ‘Borussia Dortmund Player of the Year’ the previous season. Although after having a blistering start to the season, Mkhitaryan hasn’t started a match for United since November 5.
Mourinho was quizzed about Mkhitaryan’s absence after the win at Bournemouth and in his typical shrewd style he answered ” I can only have six players on the bench and I try to have some balance on the bench. I had two defenders that play in different areas, I have Ashley Young to cover he wing and wing backs position.
Has Mkhitaryan played his last game in a United jersey?
“Herrera is a midfield player, Zlatan is a striker, Rashford is a second striker and a winger. To have Mkhitaryan means I don’t have one of them and I believe the others deserve.”
After such words and a reported falling out with Mourinho, the question that everybody is asking: Has Mkhitaryan already played his last match for Manchester United?
