MS Dhoni's participation in the Vijay Hazare Trophy

MS Dhoni’s participation in the Vijay Hazare Trophy: The development has taken another turn with a report saying that he won’t participate.

The conundrum regarding the participation of the former India captain and current wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy has once again come under the clouds for according to a report in the leading daily, Dhoni will not play for Jharkhand in the knockout stage of the tournament.

Dhoni, who retired from Test cricket in 2014, was available to play for Jharkhand after India’s victorious Asia Cup campaign. His teammates in Manish Pandey (Karnataka), Yuzvendra Chahal (Haryana) and Deepak Chahar (Rajastahan) represented their individual states after returning from UAE.

Citing his indifferent form in mind, former India captain in Sunil Gavaskar had earlier opined for Dhoni playing more domestic cricket to return back to form. Post which, there were reports of Dhoni highly likely to take part in the tournament.

After announcing the Indian team for the first two ODIs against West Indies, chief selector MSK Prasad had confirmed that Dhoni will take part in the domestic tournament. However, a recent report by The Hindu claims that might not be the case Dhoni will continue to sit out of the tournament.

“MS Dhoni will not play for Jharkhand in the Vijay Hazare Trophy knockout rounds,” Jharkhand coach Rajiv Kumar was quoted as saying to The Hindu.

In the middle of a lean patch, it would have been ideal for Dhoni to take part in the tournament in a bid to gain some confidence. His participation would have also boosted Jharkhand’s chances of winning their quarter-final match against Maharashtra at Bengaluru tomorrow.

Jharkhand is yet to lose a match in the ongoing tourney. Out of nine matches, they have won seven, with two matches not producing any result. With 32 points, they had topped the table from Group C.
