Most sixes in Cricket World Cup: The Sportsrush present before you full list of highest six-hitters in ICC Cricket World Cup.

During the second match of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 between West Indies and Pakistan at Trent Bridge, veteran West Indies opening batsman Chris Gayle scored his 52nd ODI half-century to put his team in a comfortable position in a 106-run chase.

Opening the batting with wicket-keeper batsman Shai Hope, Gayle scored 50 (34) with the help of six fours and three sixes. What became the highlight of the 39-year old cricketer’s innings was the number of sixes that he hit.

Most sixes in Cricket World Cup

Before the start of the tournament, Gayle was at level with former South Africa captain AB de Villiers as both of them had hit the most (37) sixes in World Cup matches. The first six which Gayle hit saw him surpassing de Villiers. Thus, holding the record of most sixes in World Cup matches.

Having hit three sixes against Pakistan, the southpaw now has 40 World Cup sixes to his name. Overall in the World Cup, Gayle has scored 994 runs in 27 matches at an average of 38.23 and a strike rate of 92.89 including a couple of centuries and five half-centuries.

Most sixes in ICC Cricket World Cup

Other than Gayle and de Villiers, former Australia captain Ricky Ponting (31), former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum (29) and former South Africa batsman Herschelle Gibbs (28) have scored the most sixes in World Cup matches.

Among the other current players, New Zealand opening batsman Martin Guptill (20), Ireland batsman Kevin O’Brien (17), New Zealand middle-order batsman Ross Taylor (15) and Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell (14) form the Top Five in this list.

As far as the current Indian cricketers are concerned, former captain and current wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni (10) and opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan (9) are the top contenders in this list.
