Most successful Indian captain in Tests: Virat Kohli comments on surpassing former captain MS Dhoni

Most successful Indian captain in Tests: The current Indian captain has climbed to the top of the ladder as far as Test captains are concerned.

India captain Virat Kohli admitted that West Indies put his team under “tricky situations” in the second Test of the India’s tour of West Indies. Speaking during the post-match presentation ceremony, Kohli hailed the Indian batsmen for playing the rescue act in Jamaica.

“We were put under pressure in a couple of sessions. While batting, there were some tricky situations but it took some character from the boys. Hanuma [Vihari] was the standout batsman, be it Ajinkya [Rahane] in the second innings, Mayank [Agarwal] in the first innings or Ishant [Sharma] with the fifty – it was an innings full of grit,” Kohli was quoted as saying.

Having whitewashed West Indies in the two-match Test series, India have become the first team to cross the 100-point mark in the ICC World Test Championship. The victory has also made Kohli India’s most successful Test captain with 28 victories.

“It’s [captaincy] a by-product of the team we have. Our bowlers are amazing. [Mohammed] Shami was great, Ishant [Sharma] bowling his heart out, [Ravindra] Jadeja bowling a long spell. Captaincy is just a ‘C’ in front of your name. It’s a collective effort,” Kohli said regarding former India captain MS Dhoni.

Being asked about West Indies’ performance in the series, the Indian skipper didn’t shy away from lauding their bowling attack and also picked their top two bowlers from the series.

“West Indies will understand the areas they need to improve. From a bowling point of view, West Indies were amazing. Kemar [Roach] and Jason [Holder] were their standout bowlers. If they get enough runs on the board, they’ll be a very dangerous opposition in Test cricket,” Kohli added.
