Mourinho after Valencia draw

Mourinho after Valencia draw: The Manchester United manager spoke after a dismal 0-0 draw against Valencia.

The frustration continues for Manchester United as the club played a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford against Spanish side Valencia in the Champions League. Jose Mourinho’s side came close to scoring on occasions but looked unconvincing throughout the match.

Manchester United are yet to win a match at Old Trafford since the first game of the season against Leicester City in the Premier League.

Alexis Sanchez was poor for the side again, and Romelu Lukaku missed an easy goal-scoring opportunity to secure three points at Old Trafford.

With this draw, Manchester United are now second in their group, behind Juventus. Jose Mourinho’s side has four points from two matches, while Juventus have won both of their games. Valencia are third with one point, while Young Boys are still to open their account.

The manager, Jose Mourinho spoke to media after the match. He was critical of the performance, but insisted that it is “neither a good or a bad result.”

He also seemingly criticised the players’ ability, and stressed on the lack of intensity and technical quality.

“Last season was phenomenal, finishing second and reaching the FA Cup final. I don’t say more than that. We raised our level and intensity despite the fact we don’t have the players who have that intensity,” said Mourinho.

“We knew that we wouldn’t create 20 chances. We knew that our attacking players aren’t in the best individual form and confidence. This wasn’t a bad result or a good result.

“They tried, they raised the level of their intensity. We tried to play but in some crucial positions in the building up phase we don’t have players with the technical quality to play out from the back.

“It would be really good for the team if we beat Newcastle.”

Manchester United will host Rafael Benitez’s side at Old Trafford on Saturday, before the players head out for the international break.

Mourinho’s side are currently 10th in the Premier League, with 10 points from seven matches. This is Manchester United’s worst start to the season since the 2013/14 campaign under David Moyes.

United crashed out of the Carabao Cup last week against the lower league side, Derby County.
