Ajinkya Rahane to lead the Indian Test side against Afghanistan in the absence of Kohli

MS Dhoni has played a pivotal role in nurturing the careers of many Indian cricketers. Ever since he took up captaincy, Dhoni has taken it upon himself to instil confidence in players and to help them stand up during important stages in their career.

Ajinkya Rahane spoke to the media before leaving for the all important South Africa tour, talking about South African conditions, his form and of course, about the future of MS Dhoni in the Indian side.

Rahane feels that India is lucky to have MS Dhoni in the team as he has taught the current crop of players a lot.

Rahane who is inspired by MS Dhoni’s fitness standards has hailed his huge contribution towards Indian cricket. His demeanour on and off the field has helped shape the careers of a number of cricketers and Rahane is thankful of that.

“Definitely, MS Dhoni has cricket left in him. He is taking care of his fitness, he is looking after his body, he is looking after his diet I mean(making this extra effort) and also his advices on the field to Virat is such a big difference,” Rahane was quoted as saying by India Today.

“And he has a skill and he is so experienced that he has actually seen everything. I feel he is the guy and we are lucky to have him in our team. His advice means a lot to us, it taught us a lot and he definitely has cricket left in him,” Rahane concluded.

Ajinkya Rahane would be hoping to overturn his recent troubles in Test cricket, and would draw confidence from the last time he toured South Africa, scoring two crucial 90’s in the series.

The Indian Team is set to take on South Africa from the 5th of January with the Test series beginning in Cape Town. Virat Kohli and co. will be hoping to end a 25 year wait of winning a series in South Africa.
