MS Dhoni to play next year's IPL

MS Dhoni to play next year’s IPL: The Chennai Super Kings’ CEO comes up with a breath of fresh air for Dhoni and the CSK fans.

It’s difficult to get over, so soon. It indeed is. The Chennai Super Kings’ last ball defeat (by 1 run) against the ever formidable Mumbai Indians side was agonising for the CSK supporters. More so, the fact that this was their 4th consecutive loss against MI this season made it perhaps, the hardest pill to swallow for them.

Known as the ‘Dad’s Army’, the average age of the CSK players stands at 33.5- the highest amongst the 8 IPL Franchise.

Therefore, players like Shane Watson, MS Dhoni, Imran Tahir and others’ availability in next year’s IPL for the ‘Yellow army’ has become a point of contention for the CSK think-tank, as the aforementioned have played the most crucial role for the last-year IPL champions’ journey to the summit.

But what might come in as a sigh of relief for MS Dhoni and the CSK fans is the recent relevation by the CEO of the Chennai Super Kings, regarding Dhoni’s availability in the next season of the IPL in 2020.

What did he say?

In an interview with ‘The New Indian Express’ , CSK’s CEO, Kasi Vishwanathan, spoke about the reasons for the Super Kings’ consistent run of good form in the IPL, having played as many as 10 finals in the 12 seasons of the marquee, lucrative league. He also spoke at length, providing insights as to what makes CSK different from the other 7 teams in the league, over the years.

But the most important information he furnished was regarding ‘Thala’s’ availability in the next season of the IPL.

When asked about the popular talks surrounding Dhoni, regarding the upcoming World Cup being his last tournament, and whether the fans will see him don the Yellow once again, Kasi Vishwanath said, “We are confident he will come back. In the last two years, there were talks that he is not batting well, but statistically, he has had two great years. He had a stellar last season, and this time he did even better. And knowing him, he would do that for India in the World Cup too. He will definitely come back.”

In the post-match presentation after the final of the IPL, played on May 12, Sanjay Manjereker had asked Dhoni a similar question, to which the CSK captain replied in a slight affirmative, making his fans scratch there heads as they felt his reply was not a convincing one.

Thus, this comment by the CEO of the Super Kings might have sure cleared the mist around the remaining doubts (if any) in the minds of the fans.

Vishwanath also came up with the reason which makes his team the most consistent side ever in the history of IPL. And without the slightest of doubts, he credited MS Dhoni for CSK’s consistency year after year, with the prime reason being his ability to get the best out of every player.

“It all comes down to the captain. He gets the best out of the side. Each year, when we assemble ahead of the season, our aim is to make it to the knockout stages. It is the target we set ourselves. We don’t straightaway talk about winning the trophy because in T20 even an over can change the game. You can be a balanced side, but the good team on the day comes out triumphant. So instead of having a fixed target, we look at consistency”, said Vishwanathan.
