Nacho Monreal new contract: Arsenal defender discusses the possibility of signing a new contract in near future with Arsenal.
Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal signed for the club in 2013 and has since been an important first-team player for the side. He last signed a contract extension with the club in January 2016, keeping him at the club still 2019.
With his contract set to expire next year, clubs can now approach him from January 1. There were reports of Barcelona planning a scoop for Nacho Monreal, as well as Liverpool defender Alberto Moreno as back-ups to Jordi Alba. However, Monreal has insisted in a recent interview that he’s happy at Arsenal.
In an interview to Evening Standard, Nacho Monreal has said that he is in talks with the club to sign a new contract.
“At the moment we are talking with the club. I’ve always said I am really happy, I feel very happy playing for Arsenal. I came 6 years ago. I have a good relationship with them,” Nacho Monreal said.
He also talked about Unai Emery’s style and his training tactics with the players.
“In training, he likes that every single player gives his 100% in any moment. Training is one hour & a half, [maybe] one hour 40, whatever, [and] all the time we must give our best performance.
“After that, he loves that we enjoy & have a good atmosphere in the group. While we are training, it is ‘come on guys, do everything’ & after you will have time to relax & enjoy with your teammates. It is good for the team.”
