Kyle Busch Handed the Ultimate Challenge After Surpassing Dale Earnhardt and Kevin Harvick’s First Year Win Tallies at This Stage of the Season
The 2023 season is proving to be the year of Kyle Busch in a way. After winning his third race this season, Busch has that game face on, as we head down to the weekends ahead. Comparing his debut with RCR, Busch’s win tally at the moment outshines those of some of his former RCR counterparts for this point in the season.
This is considering that the legendary Dale Earnhardt, who returned to RCR in 1984 hadn’t managed to secure a win after the first 15 races. Another example is Kevin Harvick, who debuted with the team in 2001 and only had one win to his name at the 2001 Cracker Barrel Old Country Store 500.
Meanwhile, his boss at Richard Childress Racing has been showcasing promise surrounding the two-time Cup Series champion. While speaking at a recent press conference, Richard Childress announced the ultimate challenge that he has in place with Busch at the helm of the number 8 car.
Richard Childress gives Kyle Busch a tough test after a stellar performance so far
If we assess Busch’s on-track performance with the team this season, it’s undeniable that he could find himself contending for the championship four at some point. Moreover, Childress’ recent comments about his plans for the number 8 team strongly indicate nothing should prevent Busch from emerging as a formidable championship contender.

While speaking at the press conference, Childress mentioned, “You know we won a lot with Harvick (Kevin), won a lot with Earnhardt. Our plan is to win a lot with Kyle (Busch) and not only be a contender for that championship. If we make the final four, we’ll have the shot at winning it for sure.”
Now that Busch’s boss has set sights on that title, we should see the two-time Cup Series champion push more and more while out on the race track. Who knows, it could be Busch leading the championship four race at Phoenix this year. The odds do seem like they are currently in his favor.
Kyle Busch and Richard Childress have transformed from adversaries into a victorious partnership
If we look about a decade back in time, Busch and Childress would not have been two people associated to be working together. Why? Well, mostly because the two of them were big-time enemies. But what was the incident that had caused the bad blood between the two?
It all stemmed back to a notorious altercation between the two parties that unfolded after a Truck Series race in Kansas in 2011. Busch was competing fiercely with Joey Coulter (RCR driver) and Childress did not seem to enjoy that.
Later on, determined to confront Busch, Childress handed his watch to his grandson, Austin Dillon, and proceeded to put Busch in a headlock, landing several punches. Furthermore, NASCAR responded by levying a $150,000 fine against Childress and placing him on probation for the remainder of the season.
Fortunately, after all these years, both parties have left their past disputes behind and resolved their differences. Fast forward to the present, the partnership between the two has enabled us to see some impressive performances from Busch on the track. If all goes well, he may even bring home a championship for the team.
