NASCAR Fans Share Mixed Opinion on Street Course Expansion Plan After Chicago

With NASCAR’s debut at the Grant Park 220 street course in Chicago, a surge of interest in this new racing format is evident. Given that NASCAR has never used this track layout before, a healthy amount of skepticism is naturally present as we head into the weekend. Nevertheless, plans are already in place to expand the street circuit concept to other cities, indicating a solid commitment despite this being their inaugural street race.

A NASCAR insider recently shared these plans, suggesting that the expansion is on the horizon. As for the fan response to the upcoming Chicago race, it appears to be quite mixed, with diverse opinions on this new venture.

NASCAR insider suggests more street course races might be added in the future

The SVP of Strategy & Innovation at NASCAR, Ben Kennedy, told the press that they had been looking toward adding more street course races to the NASCAR schedule. He did clarify that the intention was not to add too many such formats.

Reputed journalist Adam Stern noted, @NASCAR is already holding talks with other cities about possible new street races. Per @BenKennedy33: ‘By no means does that mean that we’re going to add a bunch of street races to the schedule. But having a couple on the schedule each year is something we’re thinking about.'”

NASCAR fans showcase mixed reactions towards Grant Park 220

Denny Hamlin had previously stated that the Grant Park 220 race in Chicago would still be a good benchmark if it did not turn out to be a “good race“. Meanwhile, taking a look at social media fans seem to be having mixed reactions to this new racing format. Some fans are praising NASCAR for trying something new, while others firmly want NASCAR to return to the older, unused oval tracks.

Despite varying opinions on this racing format, the Chicago Street race will set the standard for similar future events. It is only after Sunday’s race that we can judge if NASCAR’s choice to adopt a street circuit layout truly leads to thrilling competition.
