There is an interesting story behind Kyle Larson’s personal life, more specifically surrounding who his wife is. The Hendrick Motorsports driver is not only a staple in but also has been widely successful in several disciplines of racecar driving.

Interestingly, the woman he ended up marrying also carries some racing heritage along with her. Albeit not as a racing driver, but rather, through a racing connection in her family. So who is Katelyn Sweet–Larson’s wife and how did they meet each other?

Does the name Brad Sweet ring a bell? He’s a World of Outlaws driver who also happens to own a racing series along with Larson. But do you know what is even more interesting? Sweet is Larson’s brother-in-law.

Larson apparently met Katelyn Sweet at some post-race celebration. He claimed that he used to be a party animal back in the day and supposedly drank a little too much in order to impress her. Speaking on the “Rippin’ It” podcast, Larson explained the hilarious ordeal. “We’re all partying that night and I think I was probably trying to show off for her, and I end up getting wasted,” he said.

“She and a couple of my other friends, obviously I was passed out, like on the ground, in bad shape, and they colored all over me.”

Yup, that’s how Larson met his wife for the first time. They apparently used a sharpie to draw over the passed-out future Hendrick Motorsports driver’s head. In fact, poor Larson did not even know about it, till the next day when his teammates told him about the magnificent artwork on his face while at the driver’s meeting.

Furthermore, aside from the shenanigans, Sweet also used to be an athlete herself. She used to be an equestrian and marathon runner before she got married to the 2021 Cup champion.

According to Larson, his wife is known to be a rather party-loving individual. Well, she’s the same person who colored over her husband’s head, so makes sense. But there’s one interesting thing that she started doing whenever her husband won a race.

That is her iconic beer-chugging celebration.

After Larson won the 2021 Cup Series championship, Katelyn popped up with a can of Busch Lite and shotgunned and chugged it down like a professional. Even this year after a California native won the All-Star race at North Wilkesboro, she turned up next to the car and attempted to shotgun a beer, and chugged it down to a cheering crowd.

The celebration has surely become one of the best sights to witness after a Larson win.
