National Racing champion, Ashwin Sundar, charred to death after car crash
In a horrific incident in Chennai late last night, Ashwin Sundar, the former racing Champion of India along with his wife Niveditha suffered a grave accident in MRC Nagar.
The car in which these two were travelling stuck a roadside tree and then caught fire. The couple were then charred to death inside the car itself, according to police sources.
It is being assumed that the couple were over speeding and that led to them hitting the tree.
Fire officials from the nearby area of Mylapore rushed to the accident area but it took them almost half an hour to put out the fire. The couple couldn’t be rescued and their bodies were found burnt in the car after the fire was put out. They were informed by a passerby who saw the car on fire.
Initially the police did not recognise the couple, but later they were identified with the help of the vehicle registration number. Their bodies were sent to Royapettah hospital for postmortem.
FMSCI chief Akbar Ebrahim and former Indian F1 driver Karun Chadhok wrote condolence messages on Facebook. Sundar had won the national title in car racing and two-wheeler events on several occasions. His wife Niveditha was a doctor in a private hospital in Chennai.
