"2020 was probably the worst year of my life": Warriors' Klay Thompson opens up about last year and the challenges he has faced

Warriors’ star Klay Thompson talks about how tough 2020 has been for him, and what are his plans to get ready for the next season.

June 13th, 2019 is a date every Warriors fan would love to forget. The Warriors lost the NBA Finals to the Toronto Raptors, falling down 4-2 in the series. However, what affected the fans more was Klay Thompson getting injured.

Since then, Klay has not suited up for the Warriors even once. Back in November, Klay was making tremendous progress, he injured his Achilles while practicing. That meant Klay losing yet another season due to injuries.

The 2020-21 season is the second straight season Klay is out. While it is hard for the fans and the team, it’s even harder for Klay. To go through the entire process of rehabilitation for a second straight time.

The toll it takes mentally far exceeds what it does physically, and during his chat with ESPN, Thompson describes the entire thing in detail.

Klay Thompson talks about the difficulties he has faced in the past year

Before the Warriors set out to face the Utah Jazz, Klay Thompson was interviewed. There he talked about how taxing 2020 has been, and how he has been coping up with the same. Thomspon began by talking about 2020, and how being back with the Warriors has been good for him.

“It was probably the worst year of my life, guys,” Thompson said during a video conference with reporters. “It feels good to be back here. I feel love when I’m back in the Warriors facility. My roots are here.”

“[The pandemic] was not easy on anybody. Everyone had their own little trials and tribulations in 2020, but that was it for me — was losing my grandma Mary, tearing my Achilles, I still think about Kobe [Bryant] every single day.”

“There’s not a day I don’t think about him. And not being able to have that last convo with him … it was a tough year, guys. Not only for me, but I’m sure for all of you. I’m looking forward to the future, that’s for sure.”

Klay Thompson talks about the upcoming season

As of right now, Klay is unsure about when he would be able to play next season. He plans to be ready by the time the season begins, however, he acknowledges that may not be how that turns out.

“Absolutely,” he said. “It could be a few weeks after, maybe a month after, but it’s definitely going to be geared toward the very beginning of the season.”

Klay wants to be an All-NBA player again in his return season. The Warriors and their fans would be happy to have Klay back whenever he is healthy and is ready to play.
