No matter what LeBron James does or does not do, the likes of Skip Bayless are never going to shut up about it.

News of LeBron James signing a 2-year extension from 2021-2023 with the Lakers, worth $85 million, was broached to the public by his agent Rich Paul. This deal ensures that LeBron James will play out the rest of his career peak with Lakers nation.
LeBron will be 38 by the time this deal ends. Many believe that he will be able to keep playing until Bronny, his son, makes it to the NBA. With how well Bronny has developed physically, this could be a possibility if he puts in the work required to make it.
Skip Bayless says LeBron James should have taken paycut to give Lakers leeway
According to Skip, James is not a true GOAT since he has opted to ‘go for the bag’ rather than taking a paycut. Skip used the example of Tom Brady, who took a ton of paycuts in order to keep the Patriots’ roster competitive in the 2010s.
LeBron adds two more years to his contract, which will eat up $85 million of cap room. A true GOAT, Tom Brady, has always taken less to maximize the talent around him. Tim Duncan took peanuts his last 3 seasons for the same reason. Not the faux GOAT.

Bayless also talked about how Tim Duncan took very little money in terms of salaries over the last 3 seasons of his career.

Unlike the likes of Tim Duncan and Tom Brady, who’re clearly no longer at their best, James is arguably still as dominant as ever. Despite the slightest physical declines, his enhanced skill levels and IQ more than make up for that.
There is a real chance that James ends up justifying his contract based purely on his play. But even if he doesn’t, we have seen how he can be such a huge draw for free agents. The likes of Montrezl Harrell and Marc Gasol took less money than they could have in order to play with him.
Paying a GOAT tier player his worth is never a bad decision. Skip just said all of this for the clicks.
