“Candace Parker? No woman will ever beat me at any sport”: When Charles Barkley challenged WNBA legend and Chicago Sky star to a 1v1 duel
Candace Parker is one of the few WNBA players to have dunked in-game. But even a 20-year retired Charles Barkley thinks he can handle himself.
The Chicago Sky are currently one of the 5 WNBA teams above .500 this year. They head to the All-Star Game on a 2-game losing streak, but Candace Parker has significantly raised their profile.
The Sky look virtually playoff-bound at this rate. They sit 2nd in the Eastern Conference with a 10-10 record thus far. It seems that they have a good chance of making more noise in the playoffs this time around, judging from their play.
Candace Parker has also been a regular feature on Inside the NBA during the regular season. She’s displayed some good stage presence and also some great chemistry with the OG Inside crew.
However, she might have bitten off more than she could’ve chewed in challenging Chuck.
When Charles Barkley openly challenged Candace Parker to a 1v1 battle on Inside the NBA
Barkley made one of his countless appearances on the Dan Patrick Show back in March 2019. He didn’t mess around when Dan tried to insinuate that Parker could take on the Hall of Fame power forward:
“Dan, let’s raise some money for charity. Listen, I love working with Candace and she’s very talented and does a fantastic job. But a woman can’t be me in a sport, Dan, stop it!”
Dan Patrick tried to be the voice of reason, “Charles, Candace Parker is in shape, is young. She’s good, she’s a baller.”
But as we all know, there’s no stopping Charles Barkley once he’s on a roll. “Well first of all, she’s not that young. And it’s going to be on a halfcourt. She can’t beat me, Dan! I can’t believe you’re insulting me, man!”
Many of us have been waiting for this epic one-on-one battle for a while now. We hope that TNT will finally come good on their word and set this charity game up. It’s going to be great entertainment for ardent fans of the sport, that’s for sure.
