Colorado Buffaloes star and Deion Sanders’ son Shilo Sanders recently showed up on the All the Smoke podcast alongside Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett. Sanders, currently just 23, has established himself as one of the best youngsters around. He wanted to know what Kevin Garnett thought of the current generation of players, and whether he will ever coach college basketball.

Garnett claimed that most players in the current generation were primadonnas. He said that unlike players in the past, who kept each other accountable, the current generation tended to not show the same levels of passion and desire that existed in older players. Shilo claimed that when asked, his father and Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders also said something very similar.

Sanders wanted to know whether, like his father, Kevin Garnett would also coach youngsters in college basketball. KG, however, straight-up refused, claiming that he could not coach the current generation.
The Boston Celtics legend said that his desire and passion were not complementary with most young players. Garnett thinks that he will end up saying things that will not be well-received by young stars:
“Real talk, I am going to check out. This is our conversation, hear this. I will say something and P will give me the 22-23 version. I am all out. To kill or be killed, there was no grey area. What you do is, tell the coach leave and let the players figure it out. Players back then kept each other accountable. In big games, I am used to go at a certain tenacity, working, playing one-on-one, caring, passion, having my teammates’ back. If I am going at a 100, and he is not giving me effort, why should I go hard? Kids’ effort these days is not up to what I would like to see. Because game speed is game speed. There is nothing cool about the game.
Shilo, who has obviously had similar conversations about the NFL with his father before, claimed Coach Prime said something similar. It seems as if Sanders might not ever end up coaching in the NFL:
“Thank you for validating me. I asked him if he (Deion Sanders) would coach in NFL in the future and he said something along those same lines.”
In response, Garnett explained that if his team was not showing the passion he knew was required to succeed, why would he? KG concluded his point by saying that college basketball had too many primadonnas who were unwilling to take up responsibility.

One of the most famous college coaches around, Coach Prime has quickly made himself home at the Colorado Buffaloes. The Buffaloes do not have a lot of obvious stars in their roster and started the season with a 4-3 overall record.
Despite having a tough time in weeks 3 and 4, Coach Prime’s team boasts of his son Shadeur, along with former Jackson State Tiger Travis Hunter. Deion Sanders had previously found huge success with Jackson State and is expected to further strengthen his coaching resume while with the Buffaloes.
Whether that eventually leads to an NFL coaching gig, remains to be seen. Of course, as Shilo stated, Coach Prime does not seem to be too enthusiastic about coaching in the NFL.
