Since retiring, O’Neal has brought his net worth close to $400 million with a variety of investments. His most famous one would have to be one of his first ones when he decided to put faith into Google’s A Series which was valued at $100 million at the time. Fast-forward to today and Google’s valuation is at $1.89 trillion.
Shaq however, was not born into wealth. Far from it. His mother, Lucille, would have to raise him as a single mother as his biological father, Joseph Toney, was out of the picture. She would eventually raise him along with his 3 siblings with help from Philip Harrison, Shaq’s stepfather.
Shaquille O’Neal on kids becoming as successful as him
Shaquille O’Neal knows what it’s like to grow up in a household that was tight on funds. He eventually grew into his own as a man and with help from Harrison, made it to the NBA and changed his family’s life forever.
After acquiring wealth through his NBA contracts and a couple of financial mistakes along the way, he surrounded himself with men and women smarter than him to help him stay on track financially.
Shaq worked for what he has built up today and believes kids in situations similar to his while he was growing up can be just as successful as him, if not more.
Shaquille O’Neal trained himself to become just as smart as his lawyers
Shaquille O’Neal realized that every time he entered a room to discuss business, the men and women on the other side greeted him and then immediately turned to his business partners or lawyers to actually start talking shop.
This irked ‘The Big Aristotle’. So, he went on to get his Master’s degree from the University of Phoenix and made sure that he was caught up with everything revolving around a certain deal he was trying to make. He wanted everybody to know that he was still in charge.
