The Philadelphia 76ers finished their first half of the season on a high note. They beat the Utah Jazz 131-123 in an overtime thriller. The win puts the Sixers on a two-win streak, whereas the Jazz have now lost two in a row.
Joel Embiid was his usual dominant self, leading the Sixers with a game-high 40 points and 19 rebounds. Tobias Harris came alive in overtime, scoring 8 out of his 22 points in the extra period.
For the Jazz, Donovan Mitchell led the way with his team-high 33 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists. Apart from Mitchell, there were five other players scoring in double digits for the Jazz. However, they could not manage to find their rhythm in OT and fell short to the Sixers.
Joel Embiid lobbies the referees to throw out Donovan Mitchell
Donovan Mitchell picked up his 5th foul when he committed an offensive foul during a drive in overtime. The Sixers knew the remaining contest would become much easier if Spida fouls out, so they started getting under his skin. With 1 minute left in overtime, Donovan fouls Embiid on an offensive rebound.
Joel Embiid took no chances, as he lobbied and appealed the referees enough to ensure a call against Mitchell. He was subsequently ejected, and it was all smooth sailing for the Sixers after that.
