“Draymond Green is the greatest defender in the modern NBA”: Steve Kerr holds his Warriors DPOY in extremely high regard historically

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr makes controversial statement about Draymond Green in a recent interview. 

Draymond Green has been one of the most noteworthy players in the NBA during his time as a professional. Fans have spent equal time criticizing him for his sometimes dirty and petty showings, as they have adoring him for being the defensive ace, and a glue guy for what was one of the most talented teams ever created.

This season may not be the best for Golden State at the moment, but it has been far from a failure. The team currently sits 8^th in the West and is squarely in the running for a play-in spot. Many will say that Stephen Curry alone has had to carry the franchise there this season. But, the fact of the matter is Draymond deserves a ton of credit as well.

In a recent interview, head coach Steve Kerr was asked about Draymond Green’s impact on the team. And the former NBA player replied with a rather controversial statement.

Steve Kerr was part of the Chicago Bulls’ second three-peat run. So, he knows a little something about how important defensive players can be to winning at the highest level.

As the head coach of Draymond Green, he has reportedly had his differences with the player in the past. But whenever he was asked about his impact, he has always said that the Warriors’ number 23 is an amazing player. And in an interview after the franchise’s game against the Jazz, he took it a step further. Take a listen.

A section of the NBA community disagrees with Kerr’s notion completely. Many have said that Green is simply a good defender, but has been overrated for far too long.

While he may be a tad bit overrated at times, these comments sell the 31-year-old far too short. Standing at just 6’6”, Dray can guard all five positions at the highest level. And his IQ on both ends is far above what he is given credit for.

Calling him the best defender in the modern era of basketball may be a bit of a stretch. But you have to wonder. With everything he has done, is that statement really as far off as some like to say it is?
