Before he started his professional career, Shaquille O’Neal played in college for Louisiana State University. Havings spent three years with the LSU Tigers, Big Diesel has a strong connection with his alma mater. And, while he is considered the greatest athlete in the college’s history, he recently handed the title to Angel Reese. A player destined to play in the WNBA, Reese holds her “uncle” Shaq in high regard, but he once had a controversial take regarding the $60,000,000 industry.

O’Neal is quite involved with the WNBA. His relationship with Angel Reese aside, Shaq has two daughters, both of whom have WNBA aspirations. In addition to this, the four-time NBA Champion hosts TNT Tuesdays alongside WNBA great, Candace Parker. So, when he has something to say about the women’s league, people usually listen.
Shaquille O’Neal once had a controversial suggestion for the WNBA that was not well received
Shaquille O’Neal is fondly remembered as the most dominant force the NBA has ever seen. But, ever since retiring from basketball, Shaq has shifted toward dominating the analytical game. The Big Aristotle gives his expert takes on TNTs Inside the NBA.
However, while he is well respected, there are times when he delivers a few hot takes. Like when he made a suggestion to the NBA’s female counterpart, the WNBA. Shaq believed the league would benefit if they lowered the rims.
He claims that the only thing missing from the WNBA game is the dunk. And, if they lowered it, regular dunking could be incorporated into the game, making it more entertaining. This though, did not sit well with many WNBA superstars, including Candace Parker and Cynthia Cooper-Dyke, who felt disrespected by the Hall of Fame center.
“I have a solution for the WNBA. I don’t know if you know, in men’s beach volleyball and women’s beach volleyball, the net is lowered just a little bit. So, the only thing missing from the WNBA compared to the NBA game is the dunk. So, imagine, I’m not saying they should lower it nine feet, but just so they can dunk. Just a little bit. So, I think if they did that, it would make the game more exciting.”

This isn’t the first time Shaq has said something outrageous about the WNBA. In fact, he once suggested that there wasn’t a single player in the league who could ever beat him one-on-one.
Shaq once claimed that no one in the WNBA could take him in a 1v1
Shaquille O’Neal’s suggestion to lower the rim shows exactly what he thinks of the NBA. However, this isn’t the only controversial thing he has said with regard to the league. When asked if anyone in the WNBA could take him in a one-on-one match, Shaq boldly answered “No.”
This certainly would not have sat well with many a WNBA player. Nevertheless, Shaq is entitled to his own opinion. No matter how much controversy it may stir.
