Having Wrecked Shaquille O’Neal’s Car, Shaunie Was Convinced Into Inviting Ex-Husband to Her Wedding

Shaquille O’Neal had an almost 5-year marriage with Shaunie Henderson. The former LA Lakers player initially filed for divorce in September 2007 and finally separated in November 2009. The couple had four children together, with Shaunie marrying Pastor Keion Henderson in 2022. Speaking on her marriage documentary, Shaunie revealed that she initially did not want to invite Shaquille. O’Neal had cheated on Shaunie during their marriage which led to the latter destroying his car with a knife.

However, he ended up scoring an invite after asking about it on their daughter Me’arah’s 16^th birthday. Shaunie had revealed that Shaquille O’Neal was not on the invite list, but ended up snagging a “courtesy invite.”

Shaunie and her husband Keion Henderson had documented their journey to the altar in a VH1 special which was titled Shaunie & Keion’s Destination “I Do.” The documentary gave a number of insights into her wedding, and also her family with Shaquille.

Shaunie shared two daughters and two sons with Shaquille O’Neal and revealed that they were on friendly terms. Still, she did not want her ex-husband to attend, and later revealed that he only got a “courtesy invite.”

“My daughter had her sweet 16. She turned 16 in May right before the wedding so we were at the birthday party together and he’s like, ‘Well, am I invited to the wedding?’ And I was like, ‘Of course you are.’ And I’m rolling my eyes like, ‘I mean you are, but do you really have to come?’ But I mean, that’s our banter, right? I know people will take that and run with it. But that’s been our banter.”

The documentary also revealed the kind of relationship that the two share. The pair’s four children are named Shareef, Almirah, Shaqeer, and Me’arah.

While Shaunie did not want O’Neal at her wedding, she had claimed that the two respect each other’s space. Still, she claimed that she had been put on the spot by Shaquille O’Neal and didn’t know what to do.

The two had a problematic history and separated after Shaquille O’Neal was caught cheating by Shaunie. She ended up destroying his car with a knife, busting up multiple windows. Hence, Her reluctance is understandable, and the two have been on better terms since:

“We’re cool. We’ve been co-parenting for 12 years and we had to get to some space where we were able to communicate and remain friends. It’s not this talk everyday thing, but we come together for the kids and we respect each other’s space and the places that we are in.”
