Kai Jones of the Charlotte Hornets has been in the news cycle as of recent for all the wrong reasons. His strange Instagram live from a few days ago left NBA fans concerned over his mental health state with many believing that he may even be traded with him being guaranteed $13,421,215 over the next 4 years. Now, on Twitter/X, Kai has sent out a barrage of tweets claiming he’d beat NBA legends like Michael Jordan, Shaquille O’Neal, and LeBron James if matched up against them.

The event that sparked all of this was the fated Instagram live session he had on his account a couple days ago where many viewers speculated he have been under the influence of something stronger than just alcohol or marijuana. During this live he would go on to lash out at fans who said he would get traded, saying he doesn’t think he’ll get traded for a long time.
Kai Jones goes off on NBA legends on Twitter
Kai Jones took to the social media platform to post an array of responses to fans who were calling him out for being a bit too overconfident in his own abilities as a player. He would first take shots at how own teammates, LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller, claiming he has a higher field goal percentage than them.
I’ve had a higher fg% than those guys since I came out the womb and none of them can guard me so know your ball before you talk to the one in here MF 🦋💕🐐🥇🌈 https://t.co/3B6bG4VN5O

After this, he would go on to say that he would not only beat Shaquille O’Neal in a 1v1, but also LeBron James with a definitive “100%” from his side. Michael Jordan got brought into the fray when Kai said, “I hit middy better than Mike [Michael Jordan].”
I’ll cook prime diesel in here 🐐🌈🦋🛸💕💕 https://t.co/zXHkZ59YMW

Jordan being brought into this is interesting given that he was the majority stakeholder of the Hornets for 13 years before selling it for $3 billion this year. Kai most certainly has met the Bulls legend at one point in his career so him being this confident is quite surprising.
Is Kai’s game worth the hype he’s giving himself?
Kai Jones has never started an NBA game in his 2 year long career. In the 67 games that he’s played and come off the bench for, he’s shot 56.7% from the field and averaged 2.7 points per game in 9.1 minutes of play.
Kai has shown promise as a rim-running center for the Hornets but has limited use on the defensive end of the floor. It is quite clear that Mark Williams is the big-man that the team wants to focus on and will most likely relegate Kai to a bench role moving forward.
However, with his recent tirade about his own teammates, it’s unclear if the Hornets, a franchise marred with mediocrity, would want to have a locker room presence like him. While he may feel confident in his place on the team, the team might look to move in a different direction if team chemistry takes a hit because of this.
