“I knocked over Michael Jordan’s wine glass and it broke”: Jayson Tatum recalls the hilariously embarrassing moment that ensued when he met the ‘GOAT’ for the first time

Jayson Tatum says he knocked over Michael Jordan’s wine glass and it broke when he met the Bulls legend for the first time.

Meeting NBA legends is never a task that is never easy to do in terms of trying to not get overwhelmed. The reason for meeting them could vary from you being a young player in the league who just so happens to luck out or could also be an NBA analyst who bashed on the legend for years on end for his lackluster job at being a GM and now has to come face-to-face with him in Las Vegas (the Bill Simmons special).

Thankfully for Jayson Tatum, the former is what he was dealing with when he first met Michael Jordan. Tatum was born around the time of Michael Jordan’s second 3-peat and by the time he would actually start to watch basketball, Jordan would be retired from the NBA all together.

Jayson Tatum has however acknowledged the fact that though Kobe Bryant was his idol as he grew up watching the Black Mamba and not Jordan, he has an immense amount of respect for the greatest player of all time.

Jayson Tatum talks about the time he met Michael Jordan for the first time.

Jayson Tatum signed with the Jordan Brand shortly after making it to the league and was repping the ‘Jumpman’ logo from then on out. He joined the likes of Russell Westbrook, Blake Griffin, Carmelo Anthony and many more as being active members of Michael Jordan’s iconic line of athletic wear.

In an episode of ‘All the Smoke’ last year, Tatum talked about how Michael Jordan had taken his athletes on a trip to Paris and Monte Carlo. It was here that he met the 6x champ for the first time and claims it was one of the most embarrassing moments of his life.

“So it was like Melo was there, Blake was there, Russ, Spike Lee, everybody was there. I walk in and I was like I’m going to say ‘what’s up’ to him before I sit down. Then I walk over to him and my hands start sweating and I was like ‘What’s up Mike?’ When I went to go shake his hands, I knocked over his wine glass on the table and it broke.”

It’s safe to say that anybody in his shoes would’ve probably done something just as embarrassing. Meeting Michael Jordan is no easy task and so it’s completely understandable if Tatum were too flustered at the moment to properly coordinate himself.
