“I lost my room keys, so I’ll have a conversation with you”: Giannis Antetokounmpo jokes around with reporters before Game 3 of the NBA Finals
Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo recalls the time he lost his hotel room keys, and how that resulted in a conversation with reporters
The Milwaukee Bucks probably have the most humble superstar out of all teams in the NBA. Giannis Antetokounmpo, while he’s a dominating beast on the court, is a sweetheart off of it. The 2x NBA MVP is one of the most down-to-earth guys in the NBA, and his recent interaction with the press just reasserted it.
Giannis, with his 6’11” frame, is basically recognized all around Milwaukee, even with or without the mask. However, the same does not apply when he or the Bucks travel to other cities. Just before Game 1 of the NBA Finals, Giannis Antetokounmpo lost his hotel room keys. When he went to the front desk to get new keys, the lady wouldn’t recognize him. However, a hotel staffer saw the 2x MVP and handled things quickly.
Giannis Antetokounmpo and his alias were not recognized by the hotel staff
Most of the big players use an alias to check into hotel rooms so that the media and paparazzi can’t find them. However, this time it backfired on the MVP, as the hotel front desk lady didn’t recognize the alias, and expected Giannis to pull out some id. However, before the situation got worse, another hotel staff recognized the Greek Freak, and handled things.
Giannis shared all this, when a reporter asked him, “Why you don’t like talking to us(media)?”
Antetokounmpo replied and shared the story of the hotel room keycard, and how he’s always open to talk. He just does not like the media interview setting.
I wasn’t going to write about the insightful hotel moment I shared with Giannis Antetokounmpo late Monday night, but then he shared it first here. NBA superstars, even the most reluctant ones, lose room keys too. More here, at @TheAthletic https://t.co/M17l5fiJun pic.twitter.com/sc9qZGNOD0

It’s nice to see how the Greek Freak took this in stride too and did not make a scene. Most players would have caused some issue at the hotel and made life worse for the staff.
