"I'm trading Kyrie Irving for depth instead": Matt Barnes explains why former LeBron James teammate does more harm than good for Kevin Durant, James Harden and the Nets

Matt Barnes dropped a controversial comment on Shannon Sharpe’s Instagram post, suggesting that the Nets should trade Kyrie Irving.

A Former NBA star, Barnes had nothing nice to say about the Kyrie situation in Brooklyn. He expressed his opinion regarding trading Kyrie Irving for better depth on Shannon Sharpe’s recent Instagram post. The ‘Undisputed’ host had posted a picture of Harden and KD with a caption that lauded them for their recent performance against the Magic.

Barnes’s comment echoes a concern that many commentators had with the Harden trade. The Nets had severely compromised their depth in acquiring the Beard as they gave up four role players and three draft picks.

The Brooklyn Nets are scary with or without Kyrie Irving this season

The Nets have managed to pull off the impossible this season after acquiring Harden. The trade now puts them in prime contention for the title. They gave us a taste of their greatness today during their win over the Magic. Harden had a phenomenal triple-double game as he put up 32 points, 14 assists, and 12 rebounds. This was complemented by Durant’s 42 points while shooting 61% from the field.

What was even more impressive is that they pulled this off without Kyrie. If Harden and KD can consistently put up performances similar to this then it may be a good idea to take Barnes’ comment seriously. It would make more sense to build a solid bench rather than to deal with Kyrie’s drama.

The silver lining of the deal would be that the Nets wouldn’t need depth so long as they have three superstars. However, Kyrie has been mysteriously absent from the team for the last six games. Many believe that this is one of his gimmicks and that the Nets should cut their losses soon.

Only time will tell whether the Nets fail spectacularly or build a new dynasty.
