"Important to show that you care": Russell Westbrook hands his game-worn shoes to Wizards employee after realizing he's playing without spectators

Russell Westbrook keeps up his good-guy-image by giving away his game-worn shoes from the Nets game to an arena worker for the Wizards.

We all know that Russell Westbrook has been dishing out assists on the court for the past several years. But what many might not know is Westbrook also assists off the court, immediately after his game.

For many years, the Brody has been giving his game-worn shoes to fans in the arenas right after the match. On Sunday night, Westbrook led his Wizards team to an entertaining win over the star-studded Brooklyn Nets, hitting a clutch-shot and scoring a game-high 41 points.

Due to the league’s health and safety protocols,  no fans were allowed inside of Washington’s Capital One Arena. The 2017 MVP managed to find a way to keep his tradition of giving away his shoes going. Westbrook reached out to an arena worker and handed over his shoes to her.

The 9-time All-Star has been doing charity for quite some time now.  Westbrook even has his own foundation – ‘Why Not? Foundation’. Started back in 2012, the goal was, dedicating to support community-based education and family service programs while encouraging the youth to believe in themselves.

Back in December, Westbrook was seen giving back to his new home Washington D.C,  handing out face masks and his signature Jordan shoes at a holiday drive. He managed to help 300 children because of this event. When asked about why he believes in charity, he said:

“It is very important not just to come to a new place but to show that you actually care about a community. I feel like this platform has blessed me to be able to do that.”

Westbrook’s fiery performance against the Nets could just light the spark in himself and the Wizards locker room. Right now, they have the worst record in the league with 4 wins and 12 losses. If Russell Westbrook helps Bradley Beal the way he did the previous game, the Wizards will be one tough matchup for many teams.
