Having ended 2022 on a 5-game win streak, the New Orleans Pelicans seemed to be in great form. Despite being without Brandon Ingram, Willie Green’s boys were a top 3 seeded team holding onto a 23-13 record. However, the Louisiana-based organization suffered a huge blow when Zion Williamson injured himself during the 2nd January clash against the Philadelphia 76ers.

In the second half of the contest against Joel Embiid and co., the 6-foot-6 forward sustained a right hamstring strain. Since then, Williamson hasn’t returned to the lineup.

NOLA seemed to be afloat in the absence of their All-Star duo of BI and Zion. However, after going 2-2 in the first 4 games since the former Duke Blue Devil’s injury, CJ McCollum and co. have gone on to lose 6 of their last 7 games.

Zion Williamson to be sidelined against the Minnesota Timberwolves

Initially, reports stated that the 22-year-old would be re-evaluated post multiple weeks. Now that 3 weeks are over, the Pels front office released a statement giving an injury update for the All-Star.

Stating that Zion’s hamstring was healing as they expected it to be, David Griffin and co. are lucky enough that the 284-pound beast was making good process on his recovery. The Pels’ statement further read:

Williamson will continue his rehabilitation process, which includes strengthening his hamstring and gradually progressing to more movement. He will be re-evaluated again in two weeks.

As for his availability for New Orleans’ matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Zion has been listed as OUT.

The New Orleans Pelicans will be missing out on Zanos’ services for another 2 weeks. However, the good news – Zion will most likely be making his return to the lineup before the All-Star break, if his rehab process goes well.
