It’s been a long time since a crowd fight last broke out in the NBA. 17 years, in fact. Fans have generally known how to behave around players. A vast majority of any fandom is the docile kind that roots for its players and jostles with other for photo ops.
However, there’s a less palatable variant of fans who give a bad name to the factions they represent. The entirety of the Sixers fandom plunged into self-criticism after one of them crossed a boundary in last night’s game.
Russell Westbrook was exiting Game 2 with ankle trouble when someone seated just above the passage to the locker rooms poured his popcorn onto Russ. This led to him being ejected on the spot as an understandably heated Westbrook was calmed down by security.
Kevin Durant reacts to Sixers fan’s lifetime ban regarding Russell Westbrook incident
Kevin Durant is a man who knows a thing or two about idiotic fans. He was, after all, on the receiving end of boos from Raptors fans in Game 5 of the 2019 NBA Finals – after he tore his Achilles, mind you.
Much like the rest of us, KD would be pretty indignant with the Sixers fan in question. Durant took to Twitter to give his own opinion on the action meted out to the offender:
“It’s all fun and games until ya a** banned for life.”
It’s all fun and games until ya ass banned for life.

You’d be pretty sure that the man in question will not be feeling too brightly about himself at the moment. His season tickets have been revoked and a lifetime ban from Wells Fargo Center has been activated on him.
We really need to crack down on fans who commit these cowardly, demeaning actions especially because they’re in a position where the athlete can’t retaliate without legal complications. Most of these people wouldn’t dare to act that way when man-to-man with an NBA player.
