“Jayson Tatum can add a big stamp to his MVP resume”: Kevin Garnett Believes 6ft 8″ Forward Can Benefit From Celtics’ Dwindled Roster

Jayson Tatum is having himself a season. His evolution is making Celtics look much stronger team this season than they did in 2021-22. If Boston can maintain this output from Tatum, it’s safe to assume that they are on their way to another NBA Finals. Boston’s depth is what makes them so incredibly strong.

But recently, injury has troubled them. The Celtics have played their last few games on a limited roster. With Marcus Smart, Al Horford, Malcolm Brogdon, and Jaylen Brown injured, the responsibility to lead the franchise to victory has fallen on Tatum’s shoulders.

Celtics legend Kevin Garnett believes this is the perfect opportunity for the youngster to add to his MVP case.

Kevin Garnett claims Jayson Tatum can benefit from the limited roster

Garnett, who carried the Celtics to their last championship, believes Jayson Tatum can turn around this team’s injury-struck stretch. In his latest tweet, the 15-time All-Star called this an opportunity for the 6ft 8″ forward.

KG: “This is a carry the team luggage night for Jayson Tatum! With a lot of guys out he can add a big stamp to his MVP resume, let’s see…”

Taking note of the game against the Miami Heat, KG suggested that Jayson Tatum carried the team. In a way, Tatum did. Although the Celtics lost the game, it was a well-fought battle.

True to KG’s expectations, Tatum carried the team on his shoulder. He wreaked absolute havoc on Miami’s defense and had 31 points. Though Tatum’s shot poorly from the 3-pt line (2/5), he made up for it with his versatile shot-making. The 3-time All-Star shot 50% from the field and made 9 of his 18 shots. He also had 14 rebounds and 7 assists in the game.

That being said, Miami did force Tatum to commit multiple mistakes and he ended up turning the ball over 7 times. This is an area Tatum needs to work on. But it is definitely a gamble the Celtics can afford considering the 24-year-old’s overall contribution.

Tatum has been putting up MVP numbers this season

This was another night that added to Jayson Tatum’s ongoing campaign. As per the official NBA MVP race, Tatum has moved up to the second spot. He is definitely making a case for himself.

Whether it’s getting a win or bullying the opponent’s defense, Tatum knows how to get the job done. After reaching his first NBA Finals last season, the 6ft 8″ forward has gone through a change. He is averaging 31 points per game compared to 26.9 last season.

Virtually, all his stats have improved since the last. Maintaining this rhythm will likely lead him to the Michael Jordan trophy. Do you agree?
