Michael Jordan parted ways with the Chicago Bulls on slightly sour notes. After spending the entire 1997-98 season clashing horns with the management, especially Jerry Krause, MJ finally retired from the NBA for the second time. It was horrible for the franchise because along with him, Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, Steve Kerr, and Phil Jackson also parted ways with Chicago.

For Michael, it was a bittersweet end. In contrast to their final season, this was the franchise that turned Mike into Michael Jordan. His connection with the city was pure and honest. Even with the hostility in 97-98, Michael’s message to Chicago was heartfelt.
Along with his wife, Juanita Vanoy, MJ proclaimed a never-ending love for the city and its population.
Michael Jordan claimed Juanita Vanoy kept him from leaving Chicago
In his book Michael Jordan: The Life, author Roland Lazenby revealed how during his final goodbye to the Chicago fans, MJ claimed that Juanita would not allow him to leave the city. He shared the love he and his wife had for the people and the fans.
Lazenby: “Jordan continued, “my mother, my family, brothers and sisters, could not be here. But as you see me, you see them. My father, my mother, and certainly my brothers and sisters. They are here, through me, and they, along with myself, say thank you for taking me in and showing me the respect and gratitude you have shown me over the years I have been here. I will be in Chicago for the rest of my life. My wife won’t allow me to move nowhere else. I will be in Chicago and I will support Chicago teams.”
There is a possibility Jordan was just amusing himself while naming his wife as the reason for staying in the city. After all, Chicago loved Michael truly. Here, he was the king with the most loyal and grateful fanbase.
But unfortunately, not only did Michael leave Chicago and ended up playing for the Washington Wizards, he also became increasingly disloyal to his wife Juanita after parting ways with Chicago.
MJ began frequenting fancy strip clubs in Charlotte
After the Bulls, MJ took his talents to Washington but all he got there was heartbreak. Wizards’ owner Abe Pollin unceremoniously fired Jordan and after Michael spiraled deeper into his off-the-court interests. Michael was gambling more, drinking more, and allegedly visiting strip clubs more.

In his book, Roland Lazenby wrote about how Michael once visited a strip club with Mark Cuban and Charles Oakley in Charlotte. This was all, unfortunately, happening while MJ was still married to Juanita. Though the marriage eventually ended, the infidelity streak likely caused the divorce.
