"Kyrie Irving went from being Robin for LeBron James to Alfred for Kevin Durant": Shannon Sharpe ridicules Nets star's standing in newly-formed Big 3 with James Harden

Kyrie Irving has been in the news of late for all the wrong reasons. Now he’s getting flamed by Shannon Sharpe who thinks he’ll be the Nets’ third option.

The James Harden trade has changed the landscape of the NBA remarkably. The Nets are now firm favorites to win the East and face the Lakers in the Finals. A Kevin Durant vs LeBron James in the Finals once again could be just what the doctor ordered in terms of the NBA’s popularity.

Superteams tend to boost a league’s viewership and following significantly. They are a big draw for casual fans. Ratings went back nearly to Michael Jordan’s days in the league during the KD Warriors era. This trade will definitely raise the profile of the league.

However, this move also moves Kyrie into a tertiary offensive role – something he’s never done. The likes of Kendrick Perkins and Shannon Sharpe have expressed serious doubts about his ability to fit into it.

Shannon Sharpe calls Kyrie Irving the Alfred to Kevin Durant and James Harden

On today’s episode of Undisputed, Shannon went in on Kyrie Irving in the wake of his absence ‘for personal reasons’. Shannon said that Kyrie is now definitely going to be relegated to a third-wheeling role essentially:

“I don’t care how accomplished you are, someone has to be 1, 2 and 3. That’s the way things work. Now all of a sudden Kyrie, who didn’t want to play 2nd fiddle, is now going to be the 3rd fiddle?”

“Kyrie Irving didn’t wanna be Robin to Batman. Not only is he not Robin now, hell he went to being Alfred the butler.”
