The Canadian big-man played for the Cavaliers for 9 seasons before being acquired by the Celtics. This year, 15 games into the season, Thompson has been playing very mediocre for the Celtics. He has been averaging 6.2 points and 8.6 rebounds while shooting 45.2% from the field.
The Lakers-Celtics games have been one of the most anticipated matchups in any season. The teams have a historic rivalry with each other. Tristan Thompson will soon get his first taste of this rivalry on Saturday night, when he faces the Lakers.
Thompson will play against his former teammate LeBron James, the reigning NBA Finals MVP. The two had won a championship together back in 2016 for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
‘I’m excited of course’: Tristan Thompson on playing his first Celtics-Lakers game
When asked about his opinions on playing his former teammate and Boston’s clash with the current champions, Tristan Thompson said:
“It’s always fun,” Thompson said of playing LeBron James. “At the end of the day, he’s the best player on the planet and arguably one of the best players to ever play this game, so to go against a great player in Boston wearing the green and him wearing the Lakers gold, it’s going to be a bloodbath.”

He mentioned how he was definitely excited to play against the Lakers and be a part of the great Celtics-Lakers rivalry. Thompson also added:
“I’m excited of course. I think it’s a cup half full because there’s no fans in the arena. I think that’s what makes the rivalry or the series even greater because you have all walks of life the history of Massachusetts and Boston fans in the arena whether it’s a young kid that watched Jaylen have a big dunk against Bron. Or someone older like my parents that watched Magic and Bird.”
