“LeBron James is the cheapest basketball player”: Dwyane Wade reveals how the Lakers superstar wouldn’t use his phone internet connection, instead only using WiFi
In an appearance on Kelly Ripa’s talk show, Dwyane Wade professed that LeBron James is the cheapest guy he knows.
James has been an NBA certainty ever since he reached his sophomore year of high school. His mother Gloria James even got a car loan in his senior year of school based on the promise he’d displayed.
Given such a background and certainty of making big bucks, James is expected to be a carefree spender. Many people in his pay grade are in fact quite the spendthrifts – basketball players certainly fall on the flashy side.
However, there’s a certain class of people who simply don’t see the merit to spending money on some basic things. It has everything to do with them trying their best not to spoil themselves needlessly.
Unfortunately, not everyone sees those frugal tastes and traits as a plus sign. Dwyane Wade definitely doesn’t – the man has earned hundreds of millions of dollars in NBA salaries himself, obviously.

Wade was pondering his free agency decision in the summer of 2016 when he appeared on Kelly Ripa’s show along with his wife and famous actress Gabrielle Union.
Ripa proved to be a fun host and created some extremely entertaining content with Wade for this appearance. She presented him with a pair of ‘custom-made’ Miami Heat shorts that were hilariously undersized.
When D-Wade asked her if this was her idea of a joke, she responded effectively with a yes. She proceeded to ask the Flash the name of the cheapest basketball player in his experience. Wade barely batted an eyelid before replying with the name of one LeBron James:
“Oh, LeBron. He’s a good tipper, but he won’t use his cellphone without WiFi signals. This is no joke. He sends me a text before he leaves for the boat, because there won’t be no WiFi signal out there.”
