LeBron James is inching ever closer to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record, but how far is he, and when will he do it? The question that is lingering on everyone’s mind. The good news is that that moment is less than a month away! And our LeBron James Scoring Tracker will help you keep tabs.

As per the scoring tracker from NBA.com, we are just 16 days away from seeing LeBron pass Kareem. The Lakers superstar sits just 224 points away from the record.

LeBron James inches closer to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with 37-points against Blazers on 22nd January

This is a feat that has been a long time coming. LeBron is doing something historic. So much so that it hasn’t been broken in the last 40 years. Nearly.

The last time it happened was when Kareem overtook Wilt in 1984, before LeBron was even born! This is an event that happens once in a generation.

With his latest 37-point performance against Portland, LeBron has now pushed his total tally to 38,164. He is now only 224 points behind Kareem.

The chances of us seeing this again is quite frankly abysmal. The only other person who can realistically reach it? Kevin Durant, perhaps. But he is nearly 12,000 points shy of Kareem’s record, and that would take him at least another 6-7 seasons to break.

Besides, the envelope is going to be pushed, LeBron is not stopping anytime soon.

Year 20 is when you slow down, you are a veteran, and you are solely there to be a guide for the next generation. Not for LeBron. The Lakers superstar is averaging an eye-popping 29.6 points per game this season. At 38 years old!

He has approximately 7-8 games before he breaks that record. Based on our estimate, here are the five likely games where he will break it.

  • February 2: at Indiana
  • February 4: at New Orleans Pelicans
  • February 7: vs. Oklahoma City Thunder

  • February 11: at Golden State Warriors

James has been in great form, and chances are, it is destined he will break it against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
