“Luka Doncic is not a top 5 player”- Skip Bayless shuts down Larry Bird comparisons post Mavs’ series loss
Fox Sports morning talk show host Skip Bayless found new fodder for his anti-Luka brigade, calling him ‘not a top-5 player’ after his elimination from the playoffs.
Skip Bayless has been low on Luka Doncic ever since he missed calling Doncic the best prospect of the 2018 NBA draft. Of late, Bayless has been using Luka’s 3-point percentage as proof that he’s not as elite as advertised. Bayless was sort of vindicated with the way Luka Doncic has shot the ball in the last 2 games of the series.
Skip Bayless claims Luka Doncic is not a top 5 NBA player
Despite finishing with figures of 36 points, 9 points and 9 rebounds, Luka Doncic’s performance was not enough to satisfy a one-eyed critic like Skip Bayless.
There is no way Luka Doncic is a top 5 player. Lousy from 3 and FT line. Targeted on defense by opponents. Whines about every call. Blasphemy to compare him with Larry Bird.

Bayless has been particularly irked by comparisons of Doncic to his favourite player Larry Bird. Both Doncic and Bird have had spectacular starts to their career, but Bird was an NBA champion by the end of his second season. Both will almost certainly have made First Team All-NBA – Doncic is due to be voted in as a guard this year.
However, this is typical Skip Bayless behaviour, as he generally tends to come down hard on any player that is performing well. He has had a beef with LeBron all along and most recently with Damian Lillard and Luka Doncic.
Mavs lose to Clippers
The Dallas Mavericks were able to keep level with the Clippers for the majority of the series. But the Clippers’ overall superior talent and availability (Kristaps Porzingis didn’t play last 3 games of the series) won them the contest. Doncic finished his first playoff series with averages of 29.6 points, 10 rebounds and 8.6 assists per game. The sky is the limit for the Slovenian.
Hopefully, the Mavericks have a good off-season and can get in some good recruitments next year to further help Luka carry the Mavericks a few steps further in the playoffs.
