Luka Doncic is one of the best young talents in the NBA. The 6′ 7″ Slovenian guard has taken the league by storm ever since he was drafted. At 23 he is gunning for an MVP award.

Since joining the Dallas Mavericks in 2018, Doncic has been nothing short of a sensation. Averaging 27 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists per game in his career. He has been so good, that he was handed a huge $207 million supermax contract in 2021. Just three years after being drafted. At the time it was the largest rookie contract extension.
Despite being such an influential player, it may come as a shock that Luka didn’t have control over his own brand. That is until recently when he made a move to take control back from his own mother.

Luka Doncic and his mother, Mirjan Poterbin have quietly settled their trademark dispute
For any young superstar in the NBA, building a brand is important. As is the case with Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic. Unfortunately for El Matador, his mother was proving to be a hindrance.
Back in September, it was reported that Luka had filed a petition to have his mother, Mirjan Poterbin, cancel the registration of the “LUKA DONCIC 7” trademark. Something she owned since 2020. After all, Doncic was looking to build his brand around the No. 77.
Well, it looks like her will get to do just that, as both he and his mother have reached a silent settlement.

It certainly is a huge deal for Luka. As he looks to make a name for himself going forward in his young career. With this settlement, he can now focus on taking his brand to new heights.
Luka’s brand continues to grow with the introduction of his signature shoe
Speaking of brand development, Luka Doncic made a huge move in the right direction this season. How? Well, the young superstar released his own signature shoe in collaboration with Jordan, aptly titled the Luka 1.

During the 2023 FIBA World Cup, Luka rallied the Slovenian team to defeat Patty Mills and co. 91-80 in the second round of the tournament. Having already lost to Germany in the first round, the 11-point loss resulted in Australia’s elimination from the campaign. So, while Doncic may have only been doing his job, Australia does indeed have a reason to dislike the Slovenian superstar. That said, perhaps he shouldn't count out his chances of a peaceful visit to the country just yet. I wanted to play for Australia, but it just didn't happen. Coach K wasn't going to let that happen either.” “I mean, he's Coach K. As a young fella, he definitely did tell me I had a chance to be a part of something bigger than myself and ultimately being the starting point guard on the US Olympic team.” Kyrie and his former coach (at Duke University) found success, winning gold medals in the FIBA World Cup and Olympics. Luka Doncic has often expressed his love for Kyrie, and vice-versa. Apart from lauding each other for the players that they are, they seem to be more proud of each other’s humble personalities. Considering that the two are so close on and off the court, there could be a possibility that Doncic can travel to Australia without receiving threats from the public for his hand in knocking them out of the World Cup.
