“Marc Gasol has my Defensive Player of the Year trophy”- LeBron James pokes fun at new Lakers teammate

LeBron James talks about his new teammates, and jokes about how Marc Gasol stole his Defensive Player of the Year award from him.

The Los Angeles Lakers have had perhaps the best offseason if any team in the league. On paper, they are now a better team than they were in Game 6 of the 2020 NBA Finals.

Acquisitions such as Dennis Schroder, Montrezl Harrel, and Marc Gasol have made the Lakers the favourites to win the 2021 NBA championship. To discuss the Lakers’ new moves, LeBron appeared on Spectrum SportsNet.

James opened up about what he felt when each of the newest acquisitions landed on the Lakers, including Montrezl Harrell and Marc Gasol.

LeBron James recalls the time Marc Gasol won DPOY.

It seems as though LeBron James has already started to build up chemistry off the court with his newest partners in crime.

When talking about Marc’s older brother Pau, LeBron diverts the topic to how happy he is to have Marc Gasol on his team. He said, “Happy to have Marc, another champion. Won with the Raptors two years ago. Someone who I’ve always loved.”

Right after that however, LeBron says, “Marc’s got my Defensive Player of the year trophy at his house, but that’s neither here nor there.”

This is of course a reference to when Marc Gasol won the 2013 DPOY over LeBron. Interestingly enough, Gasol made 2nd team All-Defense that year while Bron made 1st Team, but Gasol still won.

With the Marc Gasol signing, the Lakers now have the entire 2015 All NBA First Team frontcourt on their team: LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Marc Gasol.

Will Pau Gasol join the Lakers?

When asked about whether or not Pau would be in a Lakers uniform this upcoming season, LeBron said, “We’ll see.”

He could be eluding to a reunion between the Lakers and Pau, but only time will tell.
