Michael Jordan is the gift that keeps on giving to causes regarding social justice and societal reform.
His Airness donated $2 million of the proceeds from ‘The Last Dance’ to Feeding America. Feeding America is a United States–based nonprofit organization. A nationwide network of more than 200 food banks, they feed more than 46 million people through food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and other community-based agencies.

This is not the only instance of magnanimity from the sport’s first billionaire in 2020. Jordan was one of the leaders in the negotiations between NBA players and owners. His influence led to NBA teams committing money towards lobbying for social justice reforms.
Michael Jordan’s record of philanthropy over the years
Michael Jordan is among those rich people who engage in philanthropy without the accompanying fanfare. The following is a list, by no means exhaustive, of the philanthropic contributions made by Jordan over the years:
- Jordan Brand pledged $100 million to advancing the cause of racial equality in the wake of BLM protests in June this year.
- Jordan donated his salary from the 2001-02 NBA season to victims of the September 11 attacks on World Trade Center
- Jordan has served as Make-A-Wish’s Chief Wish Ambassador since 2008. He has donated and brought in more than $5 million to the organization. Jordan has granted hundreds of wishes in his 30 years of working with Make-A-Wish
- Donated $1 million each to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and the International Association of Chiefs of Police, to address the issue of police-shootings and community policing in 2016
Jordan has added another feather to his cap – one with numerous achievements already on the head.
