With the NBA lifting its trade moratorium on Monday, the trade machine has been whirring with an action packed first day of trades. These trade headlines put the much anticipated 2020 NBA draft on the back burner for more than 24 hours.

Now, less than a day away from the draft, news is breaking out about teams and their intentions on who they want to draft.
The Charlotte Hornets have the 3rd overall pick in this year’s draft. They have reportedly worked out a number of top prospects such as James Wiseman, Tyrese Haliburton, and more.
However, according to the Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor, the Hornets are interested in drafting LaMelo Ball.
LaMelo Ball could be drafted by the Charlotte Hornets
The Hornets owner, Michael Jordan, has not been the best at scouting out great prospects for his team. However, it is being reported, Jordan has given his “stamp of approval” on drafting LaMelo Ball with the 3rd overall pick.

It is highly unlikely the Hornets look to trade this pick as they are building for the future. LaMelo Ball would be able to develop in a small market like Charlotte, with less media attention than what he would’ve received in New York or LA.
What are risks involed in drafting LaMelo Ball?
LaMelo Ball is the typical high risk, high reward type player. He plays like a Harlem Globetrotter, and somehow, it works. His playmaking and feel for the game is enough to catapult him to the top of anyone’s big board.
However, with the lack of a reliable jumpshot, alongside a passiveness when it comes to driving to the rim, Ball may face difficulties in his rookie season. He does not seem like a player who would be able to contribute right away.
It will take a strong player development team to help him unlock the star potential he already possesses.
