It is quite inexplicable that anyone would wear jeans of all things to their wedding. And yet in 1989, Michael Jordan, one of the NBA’s rising superstars chose to do so.

Not that jeans were in vogue or he was intending to make it a big deal. But that it was his first marriage. He was 26 and he was in love. All he needed to do was give his vows and be tied in holy matrimony.

Juanita Vanoy was in love too. But both their fashion choices are quite questionable, to say the least.

It won’t be the first time that he would go on to make odd fashion choices. But to be fair, it was by far the boldest. As per a report from Sports Illustrated on September 19th, 1989, Juanita Vanoy and Michael Jordan were married in Las Vegas.

With their 10-month-old son Jeffrey Jordan. But the hot topic was that the bride and groom both wore jeans. In fact, the report even claims that Michael wore loafers with no socks. Well, that one might have been a sight to behold.

Michael Jordan and Juanita Vanoy’s marriage timeline

Juanita Vanoy and Michael Jordan’s relationship began in 1984 when they met at a restaurant. At the time, Jordan was just starting his NBA career with the Chicago Bulls, and Vanoy was a model and executive secretary. They quickly hit it off and began dating. They continued to date despite the challenges of Jordan’s busy schedule and constant media attention.

In 1987, Jordan proposed to Vanoy and they welcomed their first child, Jeffrey, in 1988.  Over the next decade, they went on to have two more children, Marcus and Jasmine and became one of the most high-profile couples in the sports world.

However, in 2002, the couple announced their separation and ultimately divorced in 2006. The divorce resulted in a payout in excess of $100 million. At the time it was the largest payout for a divorce settlement in the world.
