LeBron James Recounts Being Starstruck By Michael Jordan’s Physique as Iconic Photo Resurfaces

Meeting Michael Jordan is not for the fainthearted. Not even when you happen to be a prodigious talent. Just ask LeBron James, who could only muster, “Oh my f**king god!”, the first time he saw MJ.

Yes, imagine a young LeBron James seeing the man, the myth, the legend, and staring at him in awe. There is no doubt that at the time, around 2001, we suppose that Michael Jordan had already completed his NBA career. Well almost.

And when LeBron had an opportunity to meet Mike, he was starstruck like any of us would be. By now LBJ has come exceedingly close to MJ’s legacy, if not matched it. And sure the nerves won’t faze him now, but to hear him be awestruck by his presence is just unbelievable.

What exactly transpired and what does it have to do with the photo that has resurfaced on the internet?

Yes, so the story behind the photo is that it was taken during a basketball camp hosted by none other than Michael Jordan. MJ’s camp was filled with young stars with big potential and LeBron happened to be one of them.

So, as per an interview with his friend Maverick Carter way back in 2020, LeBron revealed that the picture was taken during MJ’s camp, and they even played on the same team.

But to us, there is another part of the story that sticks out like a sore thumb. The part when he actually saw Mike for the first time. No surprises here, like any fan, LeBron was overwhelmed.

“So, I have another story. So we walk upstairs and nobody told me that Mike lifts before he plays. I don’t know anything about lifting right now, I’m a high school sophomore. I don’t know anything about lifting. We walk up there and the first person I see is Charles Oakley. You know, Oak being from Cleveland, I dapped him up, and Oak moved and when he moves, Mike is sitting on the bench press. And I was like, ‘Oh my f**king God!’”

Just what we want to hear, is a very out-of-this-world story about LeBron seeing MJ and losing it like a little kid over candy. It is only natural.

And of course, everyone wants to know the story behind the picture. But more than that we are even more surprised by the fact that LBJ was that overwhelmed seeing Mike. Legendary.
