The Lakers-Suns series concluded on Thursday. The #2 seeded Suns emerged as the better team amongst the two. There were quite a few injuries faced on both sides, but Anth0ny Davis getting injured was the nail in the coffin for the Lakers. While the Lakers feel as if they did the best they could, not everyone shares the same opinions.
The 2019-20 6th Man of the Year Montrezl Harrell was an impressive addition by the Lakers in the offseason. During the regular season, he was a monster off the bench. Even during the times when LeBron James and Anthony Davis were out, Harrell played substantial minutes and was a big contributor. However, the Lakers seemed to have forgotten about him in the Suns series.
Montrezl Harrell fires shots at the Lakers
Imagine going from the 6th Man of the Year to having no minutes in the playoffs, all within the span of 8 months. Montrezl Harrell had made his move to the Lakers for better chances. However, the Lakers even took away the chances he used to get previously. While Harrell is okay about his individual stats going down, there is something else irking him.
The Los Angeles Lakers, on several occasions, were unable to get in the paint, or get the boards. In such situations, Harrell is a perfect option. However, the Lakers kept ignoring him and benching him. Harrell averaged a shocking low of 9.8 minutes per game in the Suns series and did not play in two games. This obviously was on Harrell’s mind, as he put this on his Instagram story.
This decision by the Lakers had all the fans in splits as well. They expected to see more of Harrell, especially once AD exit with injury. However, that never happened.
It remains to be seen whether Montrezl would stick with the Lakers, or would he try his hand in the free agency. One thing is sure though. Wherever Harrell goes, he surely would bring all his heart and energy to the court.
