“That’s Why I Stay out Here!”: Stephen Curry ‘Comically’ Uses Failed Windmill Dunk to Teach High Schoolers Importance of Knowing One’s Limitation

Stephen Curry has a 32″ vertical leap, as per ‘Outdoor Basketball Hub‘, which is slightly above the league average but still underwhelming for a guard of his size. As you might expect, dunking isn’t exactly the Golden State Warriors star’s cup of tea during NBA games. However, during his basketball camps, Curry can often be goaded into trying new things. Falling under this trend, Curry recently tried a windmill dunk on ‘tired legs’ after being prompted by some high schoolers. The result was about as bad as can be expected.

Curry had been holding his basketball camps for years before he was unable to do so due to the pandemic. Fortunately, after a break of almost three years, the camp is back and running, with the star even promising to hold camps along his tour, after the release of his documentary, ‘Underrated’.

Stephen Curry tries the spectacular, fails, and turns it into a lesson for his campers

Stephen Curry has been the subject of awe among fans for years because of his incredible ability to shoot the basketball. However, as mentioned previously, he doesn’t quite have the ability to play above the rim in heavily contested live game situations. Almost as if he wanted to prove this point, Steph tried a windmill dunk while being exhausted, after he was hyped up by some kids in his camp. Watch how it turned out in the tweet by Ben Hustle below.

However, Curry turned it into a lesson for the kids. He didn’t show any pride in admitting his shortcomings, “Tired legs… That’s why I stay out here.

Despite witnessing his brilliance for years now, it is still a bit shocking to see how he can drain a deep three-point shot like it’s easier than making a layup. After missing the windmill, Curry shot a deep one to get the kids off his back.

As for the campers, Curry was able to teach them to tend to their strengths, no matter how flashy what they can’t do may be. Being the human being that he is, he also made sure to laugh at himself despite the embarrassment from the miss.

Curry once embarrassed Kevin Hart with one of his dunks

Given Curry’s lack of a dunk package, he has been known to be trolled by celebrities and comedians. Among the many who have tested him, especially in public, is famous comedian and actor, Kevin Hart. Hart once recollected with Curry what happened, and how the Dubs guard left him beyond embarrassed. Here is what he said.

“Do you remember the All-Star Game where I said something stupid, ‘You can’t dunk! I own you!’ The next play you didn’t tell nobody, you didn’t talk to nobody. Slash to the basket, backdoor pass. I said, ‘I hope he doesn’t ask what I offered him!’ This makes me uncomfortable, and I said, ‘But he dunked! I didn’t think he had it in him.’ I was like, ‘How the f**k did he do that!’”

Curry may not be an athlete with a LeBron James-like bounce. However, he also isn’t the kind to take disrespect lightly. Hart learned that the hard way that night.
