After a disappointing 2020-21 season, the Los Angeles Lakers made one big move to fix things. This move, considered to be the first in a series of moves, gave the Lakers another bonafide star. The trade news was initially broken by Shams Charania of The Athletic. The Lakers sent Kyle Kuzma, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Montrezl Harrell, and the 22nd pick in the 2021 Draft. In exchange, they get Russell Westbrook, 2024, and 2028 second-round picks.

There have been mixed reactions about the trade around the league. However, LeBron James chose to ignore all that and took no time to welcome his new teammate to the Lakers.

Ever since LeBron James joined the Lakers, they have been looking for a true floor general and point guard. They thought getting Dennis Schroder would sort the problem for them. However, that did not help, and the Lakers knew what they had to do next.
The Lakers were ready to put Kyle Kuzma and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope on the trade market for the longest time. After a lot of negotiations, they finally managed to work out a deal with the Wizards. As soon as the news became official, LeBron James did not waste any time in welcoming his new teammate Russell Westbrook. He put up an Instagram post with a picture of Russ, Anthony Davis, and himself.

With this one move, the Lakers have now managed to put the rest of the league on notice. Russell Westbrook’s wife Nina Westbrook reaffirmed the same with a siren emote reply on LBJ’s post.
It would be interesting to see what other changes the Lakers make to their roster. The final roster would determine how the upcoming season goes for the 2020 NBA Champions.
