Shaquille O’Neal earned a lot of money during his time in the NBA. However, he has earned quite a bit more since his retirement from the league. Over the years, the Lakers legend made multiple investments and business deals, something that has taken his net worth all the way up to $400 million. Despite that, the big man is known to stay humble, and always on the lookout for learning something new, as he revealed during a conversation with Gary Vee.

Officially, O’Neal is worth $400 million. By itself, that is a ludicrous amount that could feed generations of his family. However, as he once hinted to his kids, he believes his net worth could be more than double that, at $900 million. And he sought to teach his kids how to do it for themselves. But, he doesn’t keep that kind of knowledge exclusively for his family.
Shaquille O’Neal explained how asking people what you don’t understand is important
In 2022, Shaq sat down with business influencer, Gary Vee. The two joined together to talk to their younger viewers, giving them all kinds of advice on how to be more secure financially.
Out of the many things he said, O’Neal was more vehement about one tip than all others. Here is what he said, as seen in the YouTube video by Gary Vee.
“Ask. Like when I don’t know sh*t, I ask. ‘Hey man, how’d you get this?’… You ask questions”
This was Shaq’s response to one of the audience’s remarks. The member remarked that even if they were able to build capital, they wouldn’t know what to do with it.
Asking sounds simple enough. However, it can be difficult in a whole range of situations. It could be that the biggest reason O’Neal is successful is because he is bold enough to do so.
Gary Vee weighed in on what made Shaq special during their interview
When watching their discussion, it is clear that Shaq and Vee have mutual respect for each other, something that likely fostered many conversations.
During their time on stage, Vee took a moment to appreciate O’Neal and spoke about what made him as special as he is. And apparently, it was all because he is one of the more curious men on the planet.
