“Would Never Put Anybody Before Michael Jordan”: Allen Iverson Once Said LeBron James Would Never Surpass MJ as The GOAT
Michael Jordan was an inspiration for almost every basketball player who grew up around the late 80s and thereafter, and one of them was a 6ft tall athlete who grew up as a multi-sport prodigy in Virginia.
The Associated Press High School Player of the year for both, football and basketball, Allen Iverson was bound to be a superstar before coming in as the number 1 pick in 1996.
The draft which is probably the greatest of all time, not only gave a successor to Jordan in Kobe Bryant, it gave NBA a culture shifter who would break even MJ’s ankles with his killer crossover as a rookie.
Apparently, Jordan didn’t like Iverson at all after getting humbled in front of the whole world. However, 26 years later, ‘The Answer’ is adamant about putting anybody else over Jordan in the GOAT discussion.
When Allen Iverson declared Michael Jordan an unsurpassable GOAT
In an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show, earlier this year, the former 76ers guard who is among the NBA’s greatest 75 players of all time, had to answer a question from Dan which went like, “would LeBron James ever surpass Michael Jordan?”
Iverson had a quick and simple response. “I would never put anybody before him,” said the 11x All-Star, who is one of the major sources of inspiration for today’s NBA. Watch this wonderful interview yourself.
However, Iverson then went on to say that James is the most complete player of all time and would surely make his Mount Rushmore.
The Answers’ Mount Rushmore
You’ve got to be some of the game’s greatest ever to be in the top 5 of the most real man ever to play the game of basketball. And AI’s best five have 23 championships between them.
Jordan, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Shaquille O’Neal, and Stephen Curry made it to Allen Iverson’s Mount Rushmore. That team is winning everything against anybody.
Winning any type of accolade or achieving any kind of statistical feat is not comparable to being on the all-time list of another legend of the game. So, you know where these five players are among the greats.
