India failed to get going in the first test against New Zealand and lost the match by 10 wickets. The hosts are set to strengthen their side further with the return of Neil Wagner for the 2nd test. The left arm pacer missed the first match to be with his wife for the birth of their first child, daughter Olivia.

While none of the Indian batsmen looked particularly impressive, Virat Kohli’s form has been worrying for the visitors. The Indian skipper has had a very quiet tour scoring only 201 runs in nine innings in the ongoing tour of New Zealand and his highest score has been 51, his only fifty on this tour, came in the first ODI.
New Zealand are determined to ensure that Kohli does not hit his stride for the remainder of the tour. The returning pacer has laid out his blueprint to ensure that Kohli continues his rare lean patch.

“Every team I play against I always try and target and go for their best players, because you know what a big stride it makes within a team when you get their best players out,” Wagner told Stuff.
“Drying him up, making sure they don’t score and putting a lot of pressure on him from both ends [is imperative].”
Clearly Wagner knows what he’s talking about. He has dismissed Kohli 3 times in 6 innings; bowling 108 balls to him and conceding 60 runs for an average of 20.00.
The Indian skipper though has downplayed the concerns over his form. He has said that he just wants to focus on doing the right things heading into the 2nd test at Christchurch.
