Nick Bosa, the reigning defensive player of the year, is still in contention to get a contract extension with the San Francisco 49ers. However, reportedly, there is a $4,000,000 gap keeping him and the 49ers away from reaching common ground. With the 2023/24 NFL season all set to kick off within a few days, there has been newfound urgency between the two camps to resolve their differences.

Bosa, who has been absolutely magnificent in the recent past for San Francisco, has been trying to get an extension that can match his stature in the league. However, recent reports suggest that the 49ers are just a few million dollars away from convincing their best Defensive player to stay with them.
Nick Bosa Reportedly Wants to Become the Highest-Paid Non-Quarterback in the NFL
Nick Bosa has made his stance crystal clear throughout the offseason, that he wants a better contract. In a bid to make himself heard, the 25-year-old star defensive end has not attended the 49ers’ training camp throughout the offseason. However, despite his absence, the general consensus is that the two parties are only about 4 million dollars away from striking a deal, as reported by Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.
“We can start with Nick Bosa, who isn’t going anywhere for a long time. The question is whether he’s going to be the highest-paid non-quarterback of all time—he’ll be the highest-paid edge rusher. The difference between the two distinctions is less than $4 million per year, and the Niners and Bosa’s people have been trying to bridge that gap for a while now,” Breer stated in his column.
Nick Bosa is currently in the fifth year of his rookie contract, which will see him pocket $17.859 million in the upcoming season. However, the highly promising defender has set his sights on a financially better contract. He wants to secure the contract paying him about $30 million per season, making it the highest-ever contract awarded to a defensive player in the NFL.

The 49ers’ camp is trying its best to keep hold of Nick Bosa, who has been an integral cog in their defense over the past few seasons. Even 49ers’ GM, John Lynch has maintained his optimism that Bosa will return to the team at the start of the regular season. At the moment, all things point to the $4 million gap between Bosa and the San Francisco 49ers getting bridged before the 49ers’ Week 1 clash against the Steelers.
Nick Bosa is of Paramount Importance to the 49ers’ defense
Nick Bosa had a breakout season in the 2022/23 season as he won the Defensive Player of the Year award, the first of his career. He recorded as many as 18.5 sacks, the highest in the NFL, along with a total of 51 tackles (41 solo) and 48 quarterback hits. He won the award unanimously getting 46 votes out of the total 50.
Courtesy of Bosa’s brilliance, the 49ers boasted the best defense in the NFL last season. During the regular season, they allowed only 277 points to be taken off them, the least number of points allowed by any franchise. Given Bosa’s importance to the 49ers’ defense, the franchise needs to do everything possible to keep him in San Francisco for the coming seasons.
