8 Years Before Signing $5,000,000 Eagles Deal, Marcus Mariota Bought an Audacious Penthouse in Nashville's Gulch Condominiums

Marcus Mariota has recently signed a lucrative $5,000,000, 1-year deal with the Super Bowl contenders Philadelphia Eagles. Although his contract may not sound that remarkable against quarterback Jalen Hurts’ market-setting deal, it’s undeniable that Mariota once did impress everyone with his flashy entrance as an NFL rookie. Buying a swanky penthouse in Nashville’s Gulch Condominiums with his rookie money around 8 years ago was definitely a power move.

Mariota was considered the next big thing in the NFL when he was roped in by the Tennessee Titans as a second-overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. The 2014 Heisman Trophy winner left no stone unturned by immediately making his presence felt in the league. Mere days after signing a jaw-dropping four-year, $24,213,974 rookie contract with the Titans, Mariota got himself a 1,890 sq ft penthouse gift that could make anyone jealous.

Marcus Mariota’s not-so-humble abode in Nashville

Marcus Mariota was surely a new obsession for all football fans in 2015 and for a very good reason. Not only was he a beast with the football but his power move with a flamboyant new purchase turned a lot of heads. His lavish 1,890 sq ft penthouse in Nashville cost him a staggering $1.05 million.

Although the penthouse cost him a substantial chunk of his $24.2 million guaranteed contract, the features of the house undermined the price paid for it. Located in Nashville’s Gulch Condominiums, the high-rise penthouse came with floor-to-ceiling windows. The bedrooms in the house featured 15-foot ceilings, modern concrete accents, and a custom floor plan, enough to accommodate NFL’s then-newly minted king.

The zebra-striped tiles in the bathrooms scream with a fanciful play that sets them apart from the rest of the house which is rather serious and clean. The penthouse was most certainly a dream purchase for the quarterback from the University of Oregon. However, it was not only his penthouse that turned heads. Mariota even trumped Tom Brady ahead of his NFL start.

Marcus Mariota topped Tom Brady as a rookie

After bagging the deal of his life with the Titans, Marcus Mariota had a sudden rise in fame. So much so that the newly drafted Titan topped Tom Brady in his own game. While the Mariota fever took over the entire NFL, the second overall pick ranked second in jersey sales only behind Odell Beckham Jr. in June 2015.

The accomplished college football QB raced to the top even beating Tom Brady, Colin Kaepernick, Aaron Rodgers, and Russell Wilson. This just shows how much the young quarterback influenced his fans and the expectations that were set. However, with Mariota joining hands with the Super Bowl contenders, will his vibrancy on the football field come to life once again? Only time can tell.
