A ‘Careless’ Patrick Mahomes Falls Behind In Skip Bayless Ranking As He Slips To Fellow Compatriot

After 18 game weeks, the NFL regular season finally came to an end. Through a season of ups and downs, some athletes have made their mark this year. When it comes to talking about the best, Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow are automatic inclusions in the conversation. On a recent episode, the duo appeared as Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe ranked their top quarterbacks for 2022.

A Mahomes-led Kansas City Chiefs side finished the regular season with the number 1 seed in the AFC. This is their third time finishing as #1 in the last five seasons. Meanwhile, Joe Burrow’s Cincinnati Bengals clinched the AFC North division and secured the third seed. 

A new rivalry in the making

As newer generations keep embracing the NFL, it gives room for newer rivalries to come around. Fortunately, these rivalries are purely based on talent. Tipped to be the top young quarterbacks in the NFL, Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow have found a new meaning to rivalry as they remain respectful towards each other on and off the pitch.

Skip Bayless weighs in on Patrick Mahomes

As Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe wrapped up the regular season on their show, the duo got into their usual banter. As they discussed the top quarterbacks of the league, Skip Bayless had a few hot takes. He called Mahomes a careless gambler as he rated Joe Burrow above him. His rating of the Bengals’ QB was purely out of their record whereas Burrow has been spotless against Mahomes in their three matchups. 

Bayless believes Burrow plays the same position better as Mahomes is always trying to live up to his own reputation. Trying the flashy unorthodox plays and moves has often worked for the Chiefs’ QB, but Bayless thinks this isn’t a very sustainable approach as the NFL is way too good for these. 

However, he still ranks Mahomes highly as he said he has put up some crazy numbers throughout the season. In terms of stats, Mahomes has been light years away from his contemporaries this season and this will be huge as he enters the playoffs high on confidence. 

The Burrow vs Mahomes rivalry is just in its nascent stage currently. Both the young quarterbacks are supremely talented and have a lot in store for them as they will continue to entertain the NFL for years to come.
